The Charism of Tongues
A Gift of Prayer & Edification
Order Number: 3270
The charism of tongues is as old as the church. It was one of the first signs manifested through the apostles at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4). It was a gift that gave tangible evidence of the reception of the Spirit. This gift is present in scripture (Acts 2:4, 10:45-46, 19:6; 1 Cor. 12:10, 30; 13:1,8: 14:1-40), has been experienced throughout the history of Christianity, and with the birth of Pentecostal movements and revivals in the last century and the still more recent growth of the Charismatic renewal in the Catholic Church, this charism has become more widespread. However, there still exists confusion about the purpose of tongues and even its legitimacy as a charism. Why? If something is present in scripture and has been manifested in the Church with good fruit, why is the charism of tongues still controversial?
You will finally understand, What the Bible says about Tongues, Who can exercise this Charism, How Tongues can build Faith, and Why no one should fear the Gift.
Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur
"It is heartening to find that Fr. Sears has written a scholarly & yet clearly ex-posited book on the most controversial & misunderstood charism of the Holy Spirit. This book should enlighten & satisfy even those most skeptical of this precious gift of tongues. And the reader will be convinced that it is a gift for everyone today, not just for those in the apostolic age of the Church."
Rev. John Hampsch, C.M.F.
