Sending Prophets

Fr. O'Connor investigates the role apparitions, visions and locutions of heavenly figures have played in the history of the Church, and the way the Church has dealt with them, in order to shed light on how those of today should be treated. After a brief survey of the Old Testament, I Am Sending You Prophets, presents the teaching and example of Jesus and the apostles, particularly John and Paul. Then it reviews the apparent disappearance of prophecy from the ordinary life of the Church, and discusses the reasons for it. Finally, it illustrates many different ways in which the prophetic charism continued to manifest itself in later centuries, above all the rediscovery which has taken place in and around Vatican II.
"God reserves for Himself the right to intervene directly in the Church again and again by means of charisms to awaken it, warn it, promote it and sanctify it. I believe that this prophetic charismatic history traverses the whole age of the Church. It is always there, especially at critical turning points… The apparitions that the Church has officially approved-especially Lourdes and Fátima-have their precise place in the development of the life of the Church in the last century. They show, among other things, that Revelation-still unique, concluded and therefore unsurpassable-is not yet dead things but something alive and vital… One of the signs of our times is that the announcements of 'Marian apparitions' are multiplying all over the world."

The Seven Sorrows of China

The Seven Sorrows of China

"In the most difficult periods of the recent history of the Catholic Church in China, the lay faithful, both as individuals and families and as members of spiritual and apostolic movements, have shown total fidelity to the Gospel, even paying a personal price for their faithfulness to Christ" - Pope Benedict XVI Mark Miravalle's intense experiences as he travels through modern China provide a realistic picture of life outside of Beijing. John Paul II

John Paul II

Most people know that the Blessed Virgin Mary visited the small Portuguese village of Fatima in 1917. Most of us have heard how she pleaded for the recitation of the Rosary. But, are we truly aware of how the message of Fátima truly changed and altered the course of world history? Do we realize how her maternal catechesis goes beyond the mere praying of the Rosary? Have we learned how the message of Fátima completely changed the life and mission of a Pope, John Paul II?

Rekindle Eucharistic Amazement

Rekindle Eucharistic Amazement

Auxiliary Bishop Dominic Luong, D.D., M.S. (Author Bishop)

I enjoyed the book very much and here are some highlights that will help readers. 1. It is a well-researched book in which the author presents a lot of loving models from the Church tradition. This indeed makes the Eucharist alive! 2. Some prayers at the end of several chapters are pattered according to the soliloquy style animated by the conversation between friends. These interior dialogues will surely draw many searching souls who are aspiring to join in the journey of interior prayer. More Details »
Christian, Yes but why Catholic

Christian, Yes but why Catholic

St. Peter tells us, "Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope" (1 Pt. 3:15). Our hope, of course, is in Jesus Christ, and in the gift of salvation He offers us through His Holy Catholic Church. Many Catholics are afraid of the idea of apologetics, feeling that while they know their Faith is true, they're unable to do a very good job explaining why.

Medjugorje and the Church

Medjugorje and the Church

Medjugorge is unique in the history of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in many respects. For instance, no apparition has attracted as many pilgrims - over 40 million - in so short a period of time. No apparition other than Guadalupe has caused conversions on such a scale within so compressed a time frame. No apparition has attracted as many religious, tens of thousands of priests and hundreds of cardinals and bishops, while the phenomenon is still in progress. This book examines who is saying what about the extraordinary events in Medjugorje. More Details »
